Now that you know some of the great benefits that being in nature provides, let's take a look at all the fun you can have in the beautiful outdoors of Colorado!
Hiking
Taking a hike might not sound like something you want to spend your vacation doing, it may sound like a lot of work, sweaty and miserable but let me tell you it is everything but that. First of all, there are all kinds of hikes from easy strolls through the forest to very hard all day workouts. Both, however, provide you with a true sense of adventure, peace, and accomplishment, something we don't often feel on a daily basis.
Close your eyes and imagine being under a canopy of trees where the light is just peaking through the leaves and you feel a kiss of warmth where the light touches your skin. You hear the birds singing a song off in the trees ahead and feel chills as the wind graces your neck. You take a deep breath in and smell spearmint and pine from the trees surrounding you, there are no sounds of cars or phones or people but simply the orchestra of nature surrounding you with the sounds of a running creek and the footsteps of a deer walking on the forest floor. You take a deep breath in and out comes all the stress, anxiety, worry, leaving you with simply peace.
Soon the forest will be full of the sound of laughter and joy as the children discover the running creeks which they quickly take off their shoes and jump in playing for hours as you sit back and enjoy a pick-nick.
This relaxing day sounds like a dream to me and if it sounds like a dream to you it can be! My absolute favorite time of the year in Colorado is summer I adore all the green and wildflowers everywhere you look, I love all the birds, chipmunks, deer, elk and the scents that fill the forest and the warmth of course! If true hiking is what you are looking for I would recommend visiting June – August. If you want to see the leaves change I would recommend September however the changing of colors will depend on how wet our winter was so it is hard to say when the prime week will be to see the golden aspens.
Hitting the Slopes
Colorado has so much to offer year-round and as much as I love summer, winter is just as beautiful and is a completely different experience. Hiking may not be the best option in winter but of course, you can rent snowshoes and take a trek on a flat trail or cross country ski allowing you to see the beauty and magic of the snow-covered trees and the sound of silence.
With so many ski resorts throughout all of Colorado, skiing is not the only activity nor do you need to be an exceptional skier to have fun. With skiing and snowboarding slopes for every level and the fact that most ski resorts have sledding and tubing I assure you, you will find an activity for everyone in the family!
Perhaps being active in the snow isn't your thing but your spouse loves the thrill of the winter sports, most ski resorts are surrounded by adorable little towns full of great food, drinks, and adorable shops in the most picturesque mountain towns full of breathtaking views! Of course sitting in a hot tub with a warm drink looking out onto beautiful snow covered mountains doesn't sound so bad either! Ski resorts offer a great and unique vacation for the whole family and will leave you with memories that will last a lifetime.
Hot Springs / Waterfalls / Swimming Holes & Rafting
A true gift Colorado possesses are the natural hot springs that you can visit all around Colorado, the hot springs are believed to have healing properties and can be visited year round. There are resorts that have the hot spring water flow into pools some indoor and some outdoor and there are of course outdoor natural hot springs allowing you to soak in the warm water in winter surrounded by snow and seeing the steam above the water while you look out over snow-covered trees and mountains. Or soak in the warm water in summer surrounded by greenery, wildflowers and the sounds of chirping birds. Each season will provide you with its own beauty and relaxation.

In addition to the hot springs, Colorado has many waterfalls and natural swimming holes and of course white water rafting, unfortunately, these can really only be experienced in the summer months but are a fun experience for the whole family!

Festivals and Other Activities
In addition to all the outdoor activities, Colorado offers so many wonderful festivals that you can experience throughout the year with something for everyone! With festivals ranging from food, wine, art, beer, Christmas, Viking, elk, hot air balloons, wildflowers, music and even a festival dedicated to mac n’ cheese there will definitely be a festival that piques your interest!
Perhaps consider finding a festival that interests you and plan your vacation around that time of year giving you an opportunity to have different experiences while on your Colorado Vacation.
In addition to festivals, there are so many other activities around Colorado, there are caves and caverns to visit, wolf sanctuaries, train rides, zoos, museums, places to mine and pan for gems and gold, horseback riding through Garden of the Gods and so much more!
Colorado has so much adventure and beauty to offer, so much that after visiting My husband and I decided to move here. Colorado is a true gem and gift of our country and I recommend everyone visiting and experiencing at least once!
