Travel Tip Tuesday:

Today we are going to talk more about what you can and cannot take on the airplane with you! Depending on what your purpose of flying is, you may or may not have a need to have checked luggage, or multiple carry ons. You may even find yourself returning home with Star Wars Light Sabers or fish from Alaska and not sure what to do.

Let’s first talk carry-on’s. Is traveling without a checked bag (luggage that goes inside the bottom of the plane) feasible for you? Let’s see if you can pass the TSA 3-1-1 Rule that pertains to liquids, gels, and aerosols. Each passenger can have multiple containers that can hold up to 3.4 oz of liquids, gels, and aerosols. BUT, they must all fit inside of 1 quart sized, clear, plastic, zip top bag, and only one bag is allowed per passenger. You also cannot bring firearms or sharp objects in a carry-on. If you have a need for more liquids, or firearms, you’ll need to check a bag.

There’s an easy guide that TSA has prepared for what can be checked and what can be carried on. Checkout this link here: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/all

Second, let’s talk about documents. Depending on where you are going, you may have a need for more documents. But the most common documents that you need to have on you while traveling domestically is your ID (in 2023 REAL ID will be enforced while flying) and/or passport (if you do not have REAL ID). If you’re flying internationally, you’ll need your passport and visas that may be required where you are flying. Some countries require more documents. For instance, you may be required to have a covid test before traveling.

If you use Sandcastle Wishes Travel for your trips, you will be informed about all of the documents that you’ll need! Happy traveling!
